At our local No Kings demonstration, I chatted with a woman who’d brought her cute dog. A few minutes later she and her brother were introduced to the crowd of 1500 as Woody Guthrie’s grandkids, and they led us all in a heartfelt rendition of This Land is Your Land.

Somehow I missed that Tuesday, August 26 was Women’s Equality Day—but The Center for Children’s Books didn’t. Here are 4 books they recommend for the occasion. Honored that TEAR THIS DOWN is one of them.

After seeing all the wrong info on Google about my age (including the charming fact that I passed in 2023), I asked it a few more questions. All these answers were bizarrely off—but I’d sure like to meet this crocheting, kayaking Floridian who spent 10 years in Costa Rica!

When a reader’s mom told me her kid looked up my age online—and was way off the mark—I checked out what Google was saying.
Wrong wrong wrong wrong.

Big happy day for our rescue Junie! She finally completed heartworm treatment and has been cleared to go on walks (but gradually). Two months of house arrest are over!

Such big news I'm RT'ing again to say this is huge news.
VICTORY: Governor Ayotte just vetoed a bill that would have created avenues to ban books in New Hampshire schools. Freedom of expression includes being able to read whatever we want, whenever we want, full stop. #nhpolitics

Future banned book for @velshibbc.bsky.social. Really good book about seventh-grader Freya who wants the statue removed of Benjamin Wellington and replaced with suffragette Olivia Padgett instead after some shocking truths come to light while doing a research project. Very timely!

Some random Virgil for you: "Be warned; learn ye to be just and not to slight the gods! This one sold his country for gold & fastened on her a tyrant lord; he made and unmade laws for a bribe. Had I a hundred tongues, a hundred mouths, and voice of iron, I could not sum up all the forms of crime.’"

Worth signing up to be notified when the library gets a book you want to read. Thrilled to see the New York Public Library now has copies of @barbaradee.bsky.social’s latest and can’t wait to read.
