Oh yeah, if you don't mind the fiddly bits then the loose pinning could do the trick. I would twist the hair and then pin up, even bending the pins into what in theatre wigs would be 'escape pins' so it's easier to find. And depending on movement, loose u pins at temples and maybe top and back?

In my work, I've seen the longer wig hidden under extra clothing or a cage/hat-like structure. But if the shape in the back can be crushed and you don't want to just slap it on, could pin curl up loosely with u-pins and then fish out pins after putting on second wig.
