Thus to maintain moral integrity and idealism (and I do not mean the kind of stubborn perfectionism that holds people to an unrealistic/undoable standard) is to choose a mostly lonely existence

That’s why so many self proclaimed progressive women TOLERATE misogyny, homophobia, racism and other forms of bigotry (subtle or not) in their boyfriends. They love male companionship so much they’d rather ignore those flags just to hedonistically enjoy whatever those men bring to the table

Thing is, it’s possible to call a man out and hold him accountable in a still patriarchal system, without being unforgivingly perfectionist. And yet they can’t even do that, to spare themselves from the risk of losing said man, perhaps because they have little faith in him actually redeeming himself

They’d rather coddle these men and sweep all their problematic behaviors under the rug, even if they snowball into a seriously harmful system, all because they want to be able to enjoy engaging with these men guilt free. Choosing to double down on the defense so their conscience can continue to simp
