having a cutie patootie im excited to play & draw meant i was more willing to draw quick, "less finished" pieces more often, because i wanted to draw her!

in addition, ive also been trying to draw more "grounded" fantasy armor/outfits? becoming infatuated with renn faire garb has led to me wanting to understand armor more. this is my eladrin fighter. i still don't have a great handle on textures but hopefully my volume/weight carries the idea!

tried to do some more learning with a 2-character expressive piece (focusing on maintaining character identity & faithful body type depictions)
felt good about atem's expression. i also didn't use much reference. was more of a spontaneous sketch and i didn't want to lose momentum searching for ref

been having incredible sessions at 15yds. it felt good to shoot more consistently/accurately than some of the casual olympic recurve archers using rental equipment. the dude next to me definitely felt more self-conscious of his egregious misses being next to a traditional archer shooting well. 😂

shooting outdoors is hard lol. this isn't much further than the longest distance ive ever shot. im just glad all my arrows hit the target, though!

after many days... i finally have some painted, fletched, wooden arrows!!! had some headaches with the plastic nocks... but i have a solution lined up. it ain't perfect, but i still had so much fun making these.

today i worked on slower tempo - i have a habit of snapshooting because i conditioned myself to shoot 10+ arrows in a round to get the most out of my 2hr sessions. of course, that is silly and often unproductive (unless i am training for speedshooting).
safe to say holding my full draw worked!

anyways heres the arrow cresting i hope to accomplish. im going to dye the turkey feathers on my own with food coloring. i haven't seen very good examples online but i don't see why i can't accomplish a dip-dye. i'm going to stain my spruce shafts to be a bit darker and coat with satin PU

saw even *more* improvement this past weekend. obviously not fully proficient yet, but i'm somewhat stable and consistent enough that i am down to fixing my alignment to adjust my aim.
my alignment is now down to the placement of my bow hand, which i forget to put *above* my shoulder, per gao ying.

combine that with a better "estimation" phase in my pre-draw, today was the first time i felt like i was aiming properly *and* my arrows went where i thought they should. here i shot two arrows. the first hit the duck. then i shot a second at the card. a narrow miss, which was good! i aimed alright!
