The World Athletics Championships get underway in Tokyo later this evening (Saturday morning in Tokyo). Fourteen Alabama athletes (current and alumni) will be competing. Here's the list.

Runner-up this week is Maria Martinez Vaquero. Martinez Vaquero and partner Alba Rey Garcia won the doubles title at the ITF event in Monzón, Spain, beating the top two seeds in the process. The win is the first professional title of Martinez Vaquero’s career.

Runner-up this week is Reyna Reyes. Reyes scored the match’s only goal in Portland’s win over NWSL defending champions Orlando this past weekend.

Runner-up this week is Bryce Young. Young accounted for 5 touchdowns (3 passing and 2 rushing) to lead Carolina to a 44-38 overtime win in a must-win game for Atlanta.
