I hadn’t really thought about it much but the ability score system in 5e now seems especially clunky given that you have to calculate a modifier first before you can do anything else, which adds another layer of difficulty (for no reason)

So you dislike having to use an ability score to look up what your character is good at rather than just writing on the character sheet that you’re good at a certain skill? That makes sense to me because it makes it harder for new players to make a character who is good at a particular thing.

Genuinely asking, why don’t you like ability scores?
