Ryu is Ryukyuan and practices Kodudo & Goju-ryu (剛柔流) Karate. For him it's an important tradition rooted in his culture but also a fun competitive activity.

I'm dying to draw him in speedos but he grew up by the sea on an island where the UV index climbs up to 9 on a sunny day. So he'd rather spend it watching boats return to the harbor fully dressed, at sunset, with GariGarikun & Orion beer.

I personally like The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting because it tackles parenthood, guardianship, friendship and loyalty to found family beautifully. Sometimes it's a bit tonally off, but it still makes me smile a lot.

I had a lot of fun busting out the colored pencils for this one and the black paper was ✨nice✨ to work on. It has an iridescent layer of effect watercolor on top.
