Saturday Community Question (SCQ)
What games are you all playing this weekend?
I'm diving back into Hollow Knight Silksong, for fun and for my research.
So curious how Silksong expand Hollow Knight's mythological imagery!

Do you know Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin?
The gameplay loop of planting, growing, and harvesting rice isn't just a farming sim
It's a playable lesson in Shintō values and importance of rice in Japan: diligence, harmony with nature, work as a ritual #DigitalFieldNotes #Sakuna #Shinto #GameDesign #Gamedev

Legal 'What If...?':
If INDIKA had been a Catholic nun, I wonder what his punishment would have been according to canon law.

What do you say, shall we delve deeper?

Shin Megami Tensei serie force players choose between Law or Chaos, and offer intermediate paths, like Neutrality, where humanity rejects both extremes. This choice is a powerful statement about adhering to or creating one's own normative order
Which system would you choose to enforce? #gamedev

Approaching 30 years of Chrono Trigger, one of my all-time favorites. Beyond its perfect mechanics, it's a profound story about free will vs. destiny and sacrificing the present to save the future. A masterclass in weaving deep, quasi-theological themes directly into gameplay.

We often talk about protecting religious sensitivities from games. But what about the religious freedom of game developers?

Does a creator have the right to express their own faith, doubts, or critiques through their work? It's a crucial and often overlooked aspect

Currently (re)playing through Hades

It's a masterclass in using the structure of a pantheon not just for lore, but to shape the entire gameplay loop

The relationships with the gods ARE the progression system. Great exemple of “Religious Game Design”.
