There's an entire undercurrent of media that is inexplicably popular without ever coming into the awareness of the internet.

Think Dean Koontz vs Stephen King - they have very similar sales numbers.

Mobile games are the video game version of this, and then some niche genres.

If the game can't match that energy, then there can be a real disconnect in the narrative which is where you get that feeling from, I think

Its not limited to video games either, the same situation happens with every "joke" tabletop character.

I think a gradual tone shift from light to serious as a game goes on is basically baked into the genre - at the start of XCOM you have your silly guys named Roll Fizzlebeef and its mostly funny if they die, but after being on a hundred missions with him, you do care emotionally and mechanically.

I went to a bar concert for Dragonforce a few years ago, and in the middle of it they took out a Sonic 06 guitar and played a bunch of F Zero tracks

I'm still losing my mind that the version of her that did this literally had time powers and as much time to figure shit out as she could possibly want. It'd still be bad of she didn't, but they could have just not written that part.

There is cheap thin paper and expensive thin paper, but there's 0 chance anything print on demand is using something like Tomoe River paper people need to get real here

Bricked as a past participle version of petrified makes sense to me, since "stoned" already had a different meaning entirely

There's a single chapter in A Memory of Light that's about that length
