Sometimes an encounter is more about avoidance and survival than combat outright. In this map I imagine players trying to avoid the claw and debris it throws around, the smoke and fire all while trying to shut the machine down and achieve whatever goal brought them there.

The entire thing is meant to evoke that feeling of executing the perfect plan with your crew during some kind of big fancy event, even Ocean's Eleven style. With this Vault encounter filling the "Boss fight at the end of the dungeon" sort of role.

Inspired by the tumbleweed storms that rolled through Texas and Utah, covering absolutely everything. Seemed like a perfect, unexpected freak nature event that would make an encounter for a D&D party to try and deal with, maybe while tussling with some druid foe blowing them around with high winds!

Tsingy de Bemaraha in madagascar is what inspired this map. There are some landscapes in real life that are so unbeliveable that they fit right in with fantasy, yet somehow they usualy arnt in fantasy. 😅
