Trustees set the vision, policies & budget for their school board

They are needed to represent their constituents & collaborate w/the board's admin to improve student and staff performance

For example, if the school wasn't providing EA support or following an IEP, the parent would go to the superintendent

Trustees can't advocate on behalf of an individual student to the board if a school isn't meeting their needs

Schools need to move away from the outdated compliance-based model they've been following for decades

They HAVE to become trauma-informed & neuro-affirming

It's the ENVIRONMENT (both physical set-up & people in it) that has greatest impact on autistic students' experiences in school #OntEd #autism

ALL of those children can still access support through Foundational Family Services. And if eligible they can access ETS, URS & CMEY. All of these are offered free under the #OAP

No one should even think physically restraining or secluding a child is OK

The reason why ND & disabled students are disproportionately secluded and/or restrained is due to ABLEISM

There needs to be a fundamental re-think / paradigm shift when it comes to supporting these students

20K are accessing CORE CLINICAL SERVICES while 60K can access OTHER parts of the OAP such as Foundational Family Services, URS, CMEY & ETS

We also need to watch for school readiness programs that simply teach autistic children how to act more neurotypically

But with ETS specifically, been finding that schools simply aren't doing enough to accommodate. Rather than be proactive, they're using a "wait-and-see" approach🙄
