The usual lot spruiking for next round of funding Alex. Sounds cynical, but is it ?

Maybe when WHO accepts the HR in THR. Some were richly rewarded for their paid efforts to demonise it

Seems to be working well in New Zealand. You wonder where UK would be (daily smokers) without THR newsroom.co.nz/2025/09/10/c...
Rapid switch from smoking to vaping is helping close NZ's big health inequalities
Comment from the University of Auckland: Targeted support for population groups vulnerable to smoking offers many more years of life and reduced health system costs

Maybe the question to ask. 'Are seat belts and airbags an emerged threat to public health ecosystem funding and grants'.

Surely more 'enforcement' fix this, worked so well in past.

Reason why a bit of a sore point is that over the years (I've seen) its been used to lazily discredit anything Alex/Colin states in various media articles, interviews and reviews. Always used to head up good ol' smearing. Another reason why we're in such a bad state here in AU when it comes to THR

Simon in deep denial that the black market in tobacco (and now vapes) he helped create will be thwarted. Fantasy land.
September 18, 2025 at 8:07 AM
I'm talking illicit supply. As a smoker you'd have to be a mug to buy legal with wide availability. My friend she walks in and is greeted with a smile and is asked 'how many packs do you want'. $12 each.
September 17, 2025 at 1:00 PM
It's way cheaper to smoke now than 14 years ago when I switched to vaping. Back then it was $15/$16 a packet (2011). Too late, they'd never beat black market prices even if they took off the tax, but I reckon less people would buy BM even if $20 legal pack price.

Demonization = profit/assurance of funding.

The black market looks after the smokers seeking to reduce harm to themselves and ultimately their family. What a strange state of affairs created by government policy whereby reliance upon criminal gangs held in higher esteem than elected government. 🤡

This is great news. Seems to be ongoing success for a number of years now.

Doesn't stop them from declaring that it is 'dangerous'
September 5, 2025 at 10:30 AM
Cmon. Such a bunch of lies. Vaping doesn't kill, smoking does. If you put people off vaping with lies, they might continue to smoke.
September 3, 2025 at 5:05 AM
Government orgs like @publichealthaus.bsky.social‬ have important role not to spread lies about THR as well. It keeps adults smoking www.watoday.com.au/national/wes...
September 3, 2025 at 4:49 AM
Agree. They went from education and 'nudging' to all out social engineering and now they are social engineering stigma towards THR in AU. Not exaggerating. People will walk past you and do fake coughing if they see you vaping. Its just sad and backwards to "other" those choosing vastly safer option.
September 1, 2025 at 11:20 AM
I think the clue is the "control" bit of tobacco control Alex.
September 1, 2025 at 7:49 AM
I honestly believe we'll get there Alex. Takes time for policy failure to get through. Although will take more time because of a population socialised to hate on smokers (and now vapers because of the problem/reaction/solution dynamic over the past 5 years).
August 29, 2025 at 9:04 AM
At which point do we stop declaring (with hubris) our amazing smoking statistics when they are likely to be grossly inaccurate because many consuming non tax-earning stock.
August 26, 2025 at 11:08 AM
Disagree. When you prohibit instead of regulate you get these kinds of situations. Simon just uses this as an example to bolster support for our own failing prohibitions on life saving THR.
