Brown is a reasonable guy and a ruby red Republican. The best read of this is he knew Smith had lost his marbles which is why he released his opinion without the dissent. The other question in my mind is why did the Chief designate Smith for this panel (unless they did it by a random draw)?

This is incredibly offensive for reasons that should be obvious, and not even liberal -- it shouldn't matter even if they were fertile (???) or Balkanized (except for the Bosnians and Albanians/Kosovars of course).

What role is that? Western provincial NDP politicians and strategists are in it to win elections from the center-left. And the Ontario NDP is still scarred by the Bob Rae experience when it was able to take power.

While I agree with pursuing Epstein because it works and these are desperate times, I do worry that scandals like Epstein often push things in reactionary directions that are not good for liberals or the liberal left. (I do not beliebe this is why pundits want to move on from it, just my view.)

The Effective Altruist people (maybe Yglesias / Shor types are sincerely ones but they get a lot of money from them -- basically look at people SBF gave money to) have decided that reducing greenhouse gasses isn't worth it. Either climate change won't be so bad on net or do geoengineering.

You can either be Switzerland and juice per capital income through increasingly high values services and manufacturing, but can even they sustain that? Or a petro-resource state and redistribute wealth like Norway/Saudi but that requires a massive ideological shift. Those are the models at leadt.

I suppose the argument is it takes a while for that to filter through to preventing the kinds of forced sales or disincentives to trading up -- even in CA this wasn't even a huge issue in SF until the 90s (and other markets after that).

Isn't this going to be (sub?)egionally specific to a set of places that had a substantial number of home sales after 2022? Most Covid buyers are locked in to relatively low monthly payments even if they end up underwater. A pre COVID buyer at 2018 prices already has a decent cushion of equity.

The way Trump operates is that he will alternate between favoring and undercutting between Vance and Rubio such that neither feels comfortable and gains any standing. If someone else somehow gets in the mix he will do the same with them too.

The social democratic response to private sector failure is nationalization (either direct or effectively via expanding to the public sector to cover more activities) + social welfare, not bailouts. It's politically tough to make the argument, but that's kind of what it is.
