Thank you for checking on this- we appreciate the help! Fortunately a group of volunteers got a path cleared down to bare surface so it’s at least passable again.

Do you happen to know who has jurisdiction over the pedestrian bridge from Shirlington to Parkfairfax? It’s in rough shape and the guy who’s been working on it says Arlington, Alexandria and VDOT have all been unable to help.

I ran across a mix someone made where that section got looped back several times so the whole song was like 37 minutes and I’m pretty sure I reached a higher plane.

It’s always fun when you talk schools with folks and have to explain that the country’s perennial #1 High School might have an Alexandria address but isn’t in Alexandria and kids from Alexandria can’t go there.

I worked in a school when I scratched my cornea and had to wear an eyepatch for a week. Choruses of “Arr, matey!” and similar the whole week. One kid came up and tried to ask if I was going to make him walk the plank, but he couldn’t even get through it without laughing.

Had to have the patio redone because of settlement issues. I stood at the back door asking the workers questions about the base materials and slope for drainage, nodding intently the whole time like I knew the answers.

At least one principal who wanted to hire her tried to intervene with HR on her behalf and was basically told “she shouldn’t have left in the first place” which is a remarkable attitude to have at a time when you can’t fill all your positions even with unqualified personnel.

My spouse left one local district for another, then wanted to go back after one year. Even though she left as a step 19, they wouldn’t let her return higher than 13, which was a ~$12k pay cut.
And they wonder why teachers are leaving.

The area off Little River, which includes perennial #1 high school in the country TJHSST, also has Alexandria addresses. This leads to some very interesting reactions when people learn about “Alexandria High Schools”

My wife used to teach at TC. Most of her experience with this was either split-custody situations where one parent lived in MD or folks who lived in ALX but kept their cars registered in MD.
But never let a reasonable explanation get in the way of ALXnow commenter conspiracies!

I’ve had the best luck with Christmas and marginal wood ferns and phlox so far. I’m trying wild ginger and astilbe next spring on the advice of a local horticulturist.
