It's The Day of German Unity today, and I for one will be heading for the #Oktoberfest a bit later. Here's a poem I wrote three years ago.

I have been looking through my old sketchbooks... I did these oil pastels of Lake Como in 2009... I am a different person with a different life now.

Sláinte from the St Patrick's Day parade in Munich... a huge and joyous celebration of diversity, friendliness and European identity, and huge F***off to Trumpism, Putinusm and Bexit.

Yesterday's walk in Oberbayern, my first of the spring. 16 mile walk with my daughter, including lovely lunch and beer at the Neureuter hut. This is a view of the Wendelstein from Gindelalm. The walk's start was 50 mins from Munich by public transport.

On today's walk in Oberbayern (just on the edge of Munich, actually), I was lucky enough to meet this Harris Hawk and his falconer (who didn't want to bd photographed).

I have written a poem about a man I knew a bit and liked a lot. Peter Jacobi led me, and my family on many alpine walks. In July he was killed when he fell 300m from a cliff in Austria. He was a man who loved the mountains, and he communicated that to the people he guided and shared them with.

Today's walk in Oberbayern was a snowshoe hike
towards the Roßkopf from Spitzingsee... one I have done many times before but always enjoy. Perfect weather.

A new poem, inspired by childhood. I like the strong effect if the photo - it reminds me of the beach

Happy to say that @BooksHayloft will be publishing my 3rd collection of poems later this year. Provisionally called The Tree at the Edge of the Mountains it reflects on a pandemic, and on love, life and history. It will feature illustrations from my ex partner, Inge Schlaile, and some by me.

I've been reflecting on a difficult year - the end of a relationship that meant a lot to me, coming to terms with that, and discovering hope for the future. Here's my latest poem, written in a place where I once found happiness and love.
