3. It will make things worse for everyone. People not eligible for temporary protection will likely ask for asylum. Many won’t be granted asylum but will still receive a different form of temporary protection as sending them back to UA would violate the principle of non-refoulement.

2. Restricting protection to certain regions will be seen as a lack of solidarity towards UA and the EU (which continues to offer protection to everyone fleeing the country), significantly damaging CH international und humanitarian reputation.

1. There are no safe regions in UA. Russian airstrikes are targeting civilian population and infrastructure in the whole country.

But it’s not really about public concern about migration, is it? Rather about presenting border checks as a solution (which they aren’t). So all you’d basically need is the political will to change that narrative. And you could use many recent policy developments as an argument: the pact, the SBC,..
