Juliet Social Club permanently closes 1/1/26, so that will be another vacant space soon 🙁

It’s unfortunately going to become a lot more common in MA now that NH got rid of vehicle inspections. Annual inspection is really the only way to tell an engine is modified for rolling coal.

If this proposition passes, a competent legislature would use it as an opportunity to introduce a progressive tax. Honor the tax cut for incomes under $400,000 and increase taxes between 5-9% above that. Unfortunately we don’t have a competent legislature, instead they will punish us with austerity.

What are your thoughts on the feasibility of all crosswalks in the project being raised? Previous meetings they said MUTCD forbade raised crosswalks at this volume, but now we have them for Otis. I am going to submit a comment that if we can have it at Otis we should have it at every intersection.

In an ideal world where MassDOT is following their mode shift goals, we should be designing for less throughput than current volumes, but I don’t think there are any examples of that in practice so far.

I understand it looks great at whatever MUTCD keynote conferences highway designers are attending, but if anybody at @massdot.bsky.social would like to walk to Assembly with me via the Kensington underpass I think they’d understand very quickly.

@mikeconnollyma.bsky.social @jake4somerville.bsky.social can the MA amendments to the 2009 MUTCD be further amended to allow for traffic lights and other improved safety measures. Also why are they citing the 2009 MUTCD, shouldn’t they be using the updated 2023 one?

Wow that’s great to hear, they put up such a fight saying level crosswalks are not permissible in the corridor. Not to introduce a slippery slope of traffic calming but… if Otis St can have a raised crosswalk, then every crosswalk in the project can be raised right?

The empty car lanes in that photo clearly show nobody drives in the winter and the city is wasting its money on all these car lanes everywhere /s

Flipping the School St lanes to the West side is a bit puzzling to me. I’m happy for any way we can get the lane to Highland, but there is turning traffic on that side and none on the existing side plus we just put concrete curbs on the lane last week. @somervilleinfr1.bsky.social

I did not realize any part of CX was Somerville. What a sneaky win for our tax base. Surely we can push the border to Lamplighter by Spring and add a new location to the Somerville brewery crawl.

Now that the election is over, @wutrain.bsky.social’s abandonment of transit riders and vision zero is becoming more galling each day. How long will the city have to wait to continue progress on these promises?

That’s great! I honestly forgot or didn’t realize the scope of this project extended to Broadway. Also looks like they are ahead of the published schedule if curb work is already in progress.

It looks like they’re removing this ~50ft of lane which I agree is really not a lane reduction due to the 30ft wide unstriped right lane. The times I’ve gotten stuck on that refuge have been scary so I’m glad to see this being improved.

Can more trees be planted there or does that need to wait for an eventual full corridor rebuild?

This is always a great map to see!

Is it feasible to add more trees to the Broadway median in Winter Hill? I’ve heard there was an extensive canopy before the road widening decades ago, and now it is a few short trees and some gardens/shrubs.
