I'm not a fan of grass either. Here's my tiny backyard when I bought the place in 2020 and now.

Lovage dies off in winter, just when you need it for soup

I actually prefer to use celery in soups and stews. Lovage just adds a little extra flavour. Mainly it's just a space thing. I have a tiny garden and I'm trying to work out the best use of the space. I'm in Australia. Summer is nearly done although still hot! Freesias have just started coming up.

I am about to pull out my lovage as it has got huge and I only use it a few times a year. I am enjoying the basil mint, although I have no idea what to do with it, and the thai basil.

I realise I'm saying this from the relative safety of the other side of the world (not that Australia doesn't have its problems) but just think about all the huge upheavals your country has experienced and survived (civil war, revolution, great depression, Richard Nixon).

I love that they divert the bugs from my vegetables, grow anywhere and look gorgeous. There's some fabulous dark red ones in the garden next door. I'm going to beg some seeds and toss them about with gay abandon.
