As this question seems to come up a lot: I'm from Belgium.

This one puts history books to shame, the world over. A must-read book for anyone interested in American History. Reads like a train and covers everything before 1491 known at the time of writing.

This book ought to be more famous than it is, but it's a tough one to get through. I loved it, but it's written for academia. Still, it offers so many interesting insights: the flag matches the contents.

This book is hilarious, insightful, entertaining and just all around marvellous. I blew through this in a couple of days of reading whenever I could, gathering looks of people wondering why i laughed out loud in the train.
Biology rocks

I picked this up because the main title was so counter-intuitive for me. I fully expected to dislike the book and lay it down after a couple chapters. Instead i found myself agreeing totally. Paradigm-shifting.

A very compelling read on racism: what it is and the pitfalls of talking about it. It's thin,to the point, eye-opening and allows you to articulate the position clearly.

A very tiring question anyone campaigning for peace is often asked is: "what's the alternative". This book has one, even if it sounds far-fetched at first glance. I love the examples in the book!

A very interesting book on the topic of animal experimentation for medical "gains" and the costs of that approach.

This one blew my mind. I love the variety of school systems people came up with to make children thrive. I only wish my country had some of them (we had one, but it closed due to state pressure).

As an anarchist this was a very valuable book to think about violence and the role of police/state in it.

This is a collection of essays on that very question. Thought-provoking for sure.

I love concise books, this is a masterclass.

Main lesson for me: polyamory doesn't need to entail multiple sex partners & one partner need not be all.

This book taught me to see society as something that can be shaped and moulded, far better than we have chosen to do. It taught me about inherited violence and trauma and how societies shape the humans that live in them.
Sadly never translated

A children's book I read the first time when i was 10 (rereads yearly). It taught me to question how our society works by presenting a coherent alternative. It shattered society's norms/rules for me and taught me to ask "why" and "how bout like this"
