in this day and age, the checkmark system is becoming more and more outdated. if we had a good edge in the war with botted accounts and impersonators, it could help verify human, true-owned accounts. otherwise, there's not a point in bringing them back. it's just going towards brand verification rn.

as for having trusted verifiers, on one hand it's a nice way to prevent top-down abuse of verification privileges from the site and gives power to trusted orgs (limits liability from bluesky). on the other hand, what qualifies an org to be a trusted verifier? i can still see this going very elitist.
