Artist on a tiny island
I've just sent my new book to print! It's a collection of sketches, photos and stories from the last couple of years, when I've been recovering from long covid and learning dry stone dyke building from the island's octogenarian resident expert.

Another update from the book I'm working on. This time, A Museum for One explores the odd things I've found inside some of the dykes on the island of Sanday in Orkney while repairing them!

Here's some exciting news about a dig and a nearby dyke on the island of Sanday in Orkney!

Excuse the bad photo, but this might be helpful!

I'm thrilled to let you know that my little book about the dry stone dykes, buildings and cairns on the tiny island of Sanday is... fully funded!

There's only three days left if you'd like to back the project, which (obviously) I highly recommend you do!

A bit of a history lesson if you want to know about the dykes on a small island!

I do like having an MSP who I don't feel like every interaction is an argument. Makes a huge change from living on the Isle of Wight!

I'm writing a book about dry stone dykes at the moment and I'm wondering what your local name is for the stones on the top of the wall, or other dyke anatomy terms!

For us on Sanday in Orkney, Rag Stones on top, heart for infill.

What's your local dry stone wall jargon?

Ahh, the joy of finding a forgotten potato growing bag. After a fairly frost free winter, this is a delightful treat.

My husband is a Christian, so I've been reading a bit more of the Bible. I really don't understand how anyone wealthy can pretend to follow Jesus's teachings.

The book seems pretty clear that we all should side with the poor, the outcast, the sinful, the sorrowful, the stranger and the strange.

And tonight's final #GoshBFDD prompt is:

"His Hair Is Long and I Love Him"

So our romantic rabbit's story ends well, with the gentle approval of her ex-girlfriend/celestial object, The Moon.

This has been fun, be sure to check out the other sketches on the hashtag!

And responding to the #GoshBFDD theme of "I Do My Own Thing" it seems like the rabbit and moon romance is having a few challenges.

#goshbfdd asked for sketches on the theme of Afraid to Love.
And this is where my mind went!

Passing place.

Wikipedia has some great resources about the history of the fascist salute that Elon Musk used.

It isn't Roman. It wasn't Roman. It's fascist.

Rather than look at the news, I tried a needle felting kit and let me tell you: it's very helpful to stab your feelings into the shape of a bunny.

I have a tension pole that I usually set up above the shower if I can't manage to set them outside.

That's a lovely mound of spinning there!

The loch flooded and Cliffy is being heroic.

Happy new year in the wind!

There's something about building a wall while grieving a death in the family that's forging itself into a poem. Until then, my thoughts are very much about how intrinsic it is to know how to share weight.

The joys of island life. Finn turns up at our gate most mornings to see if our dogs can come out to play.

I think they can, don't you?

Hullo folks, just a quick "hey, this is me on this (hopefully less fash) site!"

Fingers crossed I can find and be found by friends from Twitter!

Life is good up here in Orkney, the short days and the long nights by the fire!

The sun, at about midday. Five degrees or so above the horizon. Winter in the north, eh?
