Russell Shorto's history of Amsterdam helped set me on my path to telling the city's stories. I'm beyond grateful the John Adams institute asked me to perform at the launch of his new book!

An example of badass women who didn’t get the recognition they deserved. 💪 This is exactly why we highlight the stories of misfits and those forgotten by history on our tours—giving them the spotlight they never had!

Bet van Beeren, a legendary bar owner in Amsterdam. She was openly lesbian, and she was accepting of a very diverse clientele, which made her bar famous.

But today's story is about her childhood and the poor living conditions in the neighborhood that nowadays is one of the fanciest in the city.
