Some important advice here. Praying for all those who will be peacefully protesting this weekend.I’ve already gotten several messages asking how people can attend such a rally when “Christ is king.”My gentle response has been to direct them towards the declaration of independence of our country and the rule of kings as well as John 6:15 and John 18:36.“Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.”“Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world.”Jesus isn’t that kind of king, like those we see in earthly leaders. He doesn’t rule by coercion or violence, but by compassion and self satirical love. To call Jesus king is to say the way Caesar rules isn’t right and isn’t king. The way Jesus is king disrupts how we define “king” it doesn’t support it. So just as with the early church, to declare Jesus as king is to say that Caesar is not king. We can fully support the democratic system our country was meant to emulate rather than the monarchy and uphold Jesus as king at the same time. Because he isn’t that kind of king.
