Hilbre Independents Biennial, Artists in Residence ‘Watermark Collective’. This last weekend ‘Watermark Collective’ came to hilbre as part of @hilbre_archipelago #drawingouthilbrearchipelago. A group of artists based across the UK and Europe, working with paper submerged in hilbre islands seawater to capture tidal patterns, erosion, and the language of sand and stone. Their work captures and reflects a powerful, embodied engagement with the island’s physical and temporal shifts. Come and see their work along other Hilbre Independents artists this Sunday 20th July 11–5pm

Hilbre Independents Biennial, artist in residence – Ana Leonor from Portugal, has been an artist in residence at @hilbre_archipelago for a week. ‘BINARY FOOTSTEPS’ “The intention was to walk to the island, letting each footstep leave its mark on a length of white fabric. I was seeking drawings and traces made by myself—approaching it as a living entity. While playing with the fabric and the wind, so it would dry out, the idea of a flag became a presence. The binary code drawn on this flag mediates a dialogue between three entries: a computer, a person and Hilbre Island. Taken from the hidden depths of the software the sentence “don’t pass me by” is transformed into a graphic and human perceivable object”. Ana Leonor M. Rodrigues

‘The CASS’ provide a perfect opportunity for local, national and international artists, scientists, ecologists and more for research and collaboration to generate new ideas inspired by an environmentally sensitive location. Hilbre island is a unique island, archipelago nature reserve with a fascinating history, unique flora and fauna, birds, animals and more. It is set within a dramatic natural context surrounded by one of the world’s highest tides.

BADA was bequeathed work of the 20th Century female artist and philosopher, Fanchon Fröhlich, who lived and worked in Liverpool from 1949 until her death in 2016.
