To the masses. Is Fresh Off the Boat a rip-off of Everbody Hates Chris? Yes and no. They are both victims of trying to tell diverse stories while trying not to isolate white audiences. They are both victims of typical sitcom tropes.

The husband is going to be the voice of reality as the mother is seen as a shrewd. Of course one sibling will be smart, one will be a heartthrob, and the other will the the titular scapegoat. These are just typical white American sitcom tropes told through a cultural lens but still meant to appeal

Issues being intersectional, its not uncommon to think one is a rip-off of each other. They insist it is a rip-off but I think its just the “sitcominization” of two very real people. Of course the show is going to have 3 kids in a biographical adaptation even if thats not the actual case. Of course
