John Brown’s Declaration of Liberty. This exhibit focused on global impact of the Declaration of Independence, as well its generational resonance. Was really excited to see that it didn’t shy away from some more radical US history.

The second thing I got a little weepy at, a Roman Catholic prayer book that belonged to priest and Mexican revolutionary José María Morelos y Pavón. He was captured and executed by Spanish forces in 1815. The dark stain on the page is his blood.

Jonas Philips’ letter written in Yiddish announcing the colonies Independence to Jews in Germany. It included a copy of the Declaration. Written in Philly, it was intercepted by the British and held there until now. This is its first public display ever 😭
