This is definitely important and also it should be categorically easier to claim benefits- and not be lowballed - in the first place.

Anyways, before I get accused of being an angry man baby who hates women: I'm a chick who actually wants folks of all genders to have happy, healthy lives of safety and equality, hope that helps 😘

So our choices are troll, bot, performance artist, or person who is genuinely extremely angry that men exist and who also doesn't worry about reading comprehension or factual reality. Honestly, people are being kind by guessing troll. At least that has some intentionality behind it.
December 9, 2025 at 7:42 PM
That's not the rhetorical style of a person interacting with good faith, you know? It's also wild to describe such innocuous statements as "but doesn't everyone like food?" as "their bullshit". It's double wild to claim they can't articulate their disagreements when they do in fact do this thing.
December 9, 2025 at 7:42 PM
I mean, I've looked back thru your post history and...you kinda sound like a troll. Everything is posed in absolutist terms and your immediate response to even mild pushback is to call strangers online misogynist man babies. Even if you don't know their gender or perspective.

The accuracy is killing me.

Just watched it and imo this is the best Benoit Blanc yet. I can really see the influence of the Poker Face formula for this one and I think it works well for a BB mystery. Also love how it's continuing with a central figure and their hangers on, def establishing a recognizable set of Blanc motiffs.

How about kids here? Do they deserve to be kept with their families and treated well? Even if they're immigrants? What about the kids in ICE detention, Amy?

And we all knew they were lying but someone confirmed them anyway 🙄

Now, I get it: he's more forceful than Joyce and he expresses his fear in a way that is dickish. But it's not *because* he's just a dick, it's *because* he is a Midwestern boomer who was enculturated to act like this. That's not bad writing, that's accurate writing to the time and place of the story
December 2, 2025 at 4:55 PM
Also Hopper literally explains to El why he is acting the way he is and that he and his dad's relationship had a similar tone. After that discussion, El references it and Hopper even listens to her reasoning *and agrees with her plan* to do a dangerous thing. He demonstrates the same growth as joyce
December 2, 2025 at 4:55 PM
As someone who had a dad kind of like this going growing up, I can tell you that this is 100% a way that men of that generation and culture expressed parental fear. I'm also literally from Indiana. He's being a dickhead *because of that parental fear*. Those are not mutually exclusive states.
December 2, 2025 at 4:55 PM
Hell yeah, the Luddites deserve a lot more respect and to at least be remembered accurately for their goals.
December 1, 2025 at 6:04 PM
And yet Hopper is not "every straight dude in Stranger Things" AND the character who acts must similarly is Joyce.

If they want to run mean-spirited, cruel little tables, no one is stopping them. The rest of us are gonna go have some fun gaming with our friends without clinging to every internalized piece of self-loathing we've ever experienced. It's ok, dudes, you too can be free not to be a dipshit.

98.5% of the time, reading some Pratchett is a solid jumping off point
November 30, 2025 at 3:20 PM
Worth noting: JG's posted critique here isn't even accurate to the characters in question. Not to spoiler but it describes basically one dude and is more like parental fear than macho posturing. The teens/kids have a much wider variety of shit going on. It's a bad critique from the jump.
November 28, 2025 at 6:53 PM
And people are allowed to be annoyed when "analysis and critique" turns into "the show is bad and I'm a smarty for saying so". This didn't invite critique, it invited smugness and scorn for liking a thing. Just check out how many responses are self pats on the back for not liking something popular.
November 28, 2025 at 6:37 PM
Also new Ben Richards seemed entirely incapable of grasping the premise of the show he was on and that we knew he watched. Like every side character tells him reality TV is fake and dude still doesn't really get till the last 10 minutes.

I love the OG movie and enjoyed this one well enough. The thing that stood out to me is how much more the Schwarzenegger version leaned in on the Anarchist rebellion where this one really resisted going full on. Nods and esthetics for sure but def not a full throated endorsement.
November 28, 2025 at 7:39 AM
if that's not your jam, move along.

And PS: Yes, the era is a part of the setting and yes, it does matter that dudes in the 80s (even when written by dudes 40 years later) act like dudes from the 80s. Sorry they didn't suddenly gain 40 years of cultural competency from an entirely different world.
November 28, 2025 at 7:25 AM
Also, not for nothing, can we not enjoy a thing for 24 hours before we start the eye roll train? So tired of the immediate invitation to shit on a thing that others like. Yup, Stranger Things is repetitive- the writers have literally said they like writing in mirrored arcs -
