Honestly think that narrative was really good only for the first arc, author mighta been going a different place even I think with Sunny originally being so cynical of people he would poison you before you even did anything.
Afterwards its hardly that relevant with bro basically soloing stuff.

Its definitely my least favorite part of all Shadow Slave even though its extremely important and a lot of the concepts are super cool

What prompted this post by the way is that I listened to Bardock's theme again and it's insane how this hot-blooded last stand song has entire parts of it that the main melody is BELLS, not to mention the constant use of SFX that is just incredible.

Sunny after 600 chapters of prep/foreshadowing during like 30 chapters total after all that with every stake possible and his own life in the line + every precious material on a completely normal tuesday for everyone else

Yea, usually I can stomach it but sometimes gets rly rough (Tomb book specifically)

Its probably the best one character wise for Sunnys development imo, though there is another that is up there for me.
Honestly think the weaker parts of SS is the big infodunps and repetition, mainly in fights.

Im almost in the last book, book 5 is prob my fav even though I share the opinion and its mostly war
