One annoying thing about getting older is:

When I was younger, and I put something down because something came up, I picked up the thing I put down a few hours later, or at worst the next day.

But as you get older, the things that "pop up" are simultaneously more complex and more tiring.

So I […]

What books would you recommend someone read before they pursue becoming a technical lead? General “management” books preferred, I’m aware of and have read a lot of the “software development” management corpus.

Also I probably don’t need, like, “self help and communication” books. Probably […]

@b4ux1t3 All jokes aside, I am delighted to be on Mastodon. It's enjoyable discussing tech and various topics genuinely and sincerely. It's pretty incredible.

Gods below I fucking love the fediverse. Ask a painfully specific technical question, get people who don't just reply guy you. It's great.

Oh my god it’s Friday. How did that happen?

#SteamDeck Folks:

I need to upgrade my PC in the coming year or so. It's reliable but it's starting to show its age. (It's a Ryzen 5 2600, 64GB RAM, GTX 1080Ti)

I use my PC for work every day. I need to run all sorts of services for work, I need access to a GPU, and at least 12GB of VRAM. I […]

This is my first, like, “original” amigurumi pattern. It’s supposed to be a sort of curly-leafed plant. Looks more like a sea creature.

The color isn’t right, but I just grabbed “green yarn I have a lot of” to practice.

I think I need to see it in more colors […]

So, I'm doing #adventofcode 2019 (Intcode) in #ocaml in my spare time to practice in preparation for doing this year. I'm pretty proud of it so far. I've built lots of emulators and virtual machines in my day, but never in a functional language […]

Me, talking to grown-ass adults about whatever “woke” thing they’re up in arms about: You can be as upset as you like, but that doesn’t change the facts.

Me, giving predictions about how long a given task will take at work: You can be as upset as you like, but that doesn’t change the facts.

Me […]

Sunny morning.

Pancakes and scrapple with the kids.

Then traffic court (registration issue)

Then work.

Maybe a walk with the kiddos this afternoon.

I think today will be okay.

I haven’t blocked someone for asking folks to not use a word before.

Usually when someone is saying “please don’t use a word I find it offensive”, it’s something that I didn’t have history with, and i see if it’s something I can adjust in my speech.

let’s be totally real, some people are […]

Project update: complete. Kiddo loves it. Puts all his toys in it and then cuddles with it in the couch.

I love it when critics say things like "Once the exhibition closes, expect the art to be snapped up by excited collectors purely because of who made it, rather than for any innate artistic merit that the original concepts might once have contained."

It's obviously an intentional usage of a […]

Rainy Sunday morning.

Quiet kids show on TV for the littler one.

Mario Odyssey for the older one.

Wife and I are listening to the same audiobook (Bands of Mourning, her first time, I’m relistening so we can discuss)

I have my crochet.

I finally get the appeal of weekends.

Progress has been made. #crochet.

I’m not the biggest fan of the stitch work, but hey it’s my first time with three different colors and this style of round. Don’t even know what the name of this pattern is; 3 dc to a gap, ch 3 and skip the last rows stitches […]

Today will be different, hopefully.

First time doing floating yarn in #crochet. So far…so good?

Gosh I can imagine doing more than three colors.

Neighbor, seeing I'm taking my car apart with a multitool: I have some tools you can borrow if you need.
Me, kicking my tool box: Yeah, me too, no worries.
Him: Then why are you using that?
Me, finished: Because I'm finished already.

The only thing I regret about not being rich is not being able to put my money where my mouth is.

If I had a billion dollars, I'd pull shit like "If you publicly denounce this shit I will gift 100,000 users your service for a year."

Hi Kagi,
I've been a paying customer for over a year and I'm happy with the product. But biggest thing stopping me from recommending Kagi to others is the Brave partnership. https://kagifeedback.org/d/2808-reconsider-your-partnership-with-brave

I ask you to at least issue a statement denouncing […]
