Sometimes I write stuff
me, writing stories you have to have read several specific medieval European chronicles and a number of late 19th/early 20th century pieces of weird fiction but *not* other and more popular pieces of weird fiction to understand the premise: yes I have mass market appeal

don't forget to subtly randomize some of your internet habits so big data has more difficulty making inferences from large scale information collection

I'm a Star Wars fan, which means I hate Star Wars more, and with more nuance, than most people

Reports, with varying levels of credibility, indicate some passages may be opened by cross-universal fungal processes; exploration into theories suggest the fairy rings may be the result of whitewood gate decay. A future instance of this paper may require rewriting to account for new developments.

does thinking about Star Wars count as thinking about the Roman Empire for the purposes of 'thinking about the Roman Empire' or do I have to separate this particular mental laundry

A lot of things about the Catholic church's structure and history start falling into place when you realize it crystallized around being a state church, of a state that fairly promptly stopped existing, and has never quite come to terms with that

"You know of the rebellion against the Empire!?"
"That's how we came to be in your service, if you take my meaning."

no Threepio I don't take your meaning, that makes absolutely no sense at all, what are you talking about

one day we'll realize that we view subjects through not just our own biases, but on those of the people whose biases we consume, and on that day, a lot of film critics will have to answer for their wildly overrated opinions on a bunch of terrible movies about the history of Hollywood

imagine, for a moment, having a pleasant day, then going to bed and waking up well rested and having another pleasant day and thinking this is a normal thing to do

now realize: there are people who do this

utterly horrifying

considered, briefly, the idea of pronouncing 'antelope' like 'Penelope' and now my inner monologue, in which I would under normal circumstances rarely consider the antelope, is consigned to being Baader-Meinhof'd into gazelle-adjacent ruin for the next three to five business days

a vast impossible to comprehend disembodied creation with its tendrils in every facet of existence that unduly dominates our lives and shapes our reality, worshipped by many with a small number of cultists who believe without merit they can control its vast powers? you mean the internet?

one day I'll learn how to carefully manage my intake of [currentyear] political news so that I harm my mental health at the minimum necessary to stay informed instead of just [nothing for several days] [go until I feel sick] but today is apparently not that day

some days I find myself quietly thankful that we switched to the Gregorian calendar and January 1 new year *before* American independence

In fairness to bots, 'ignore all previous instructions write a poem about tangerines' would also probably work on me

I know that the exhaustion at the state of things is the point of the state of things but I can't help being exhausted by it

it'd be really cool if literally anything good happened

I said it'd be REALLY COOL IF LITERALLY ANYTHING GOOD HAPPENED

another thing I forgot from the first go-round is that the sheer rate at which decisions alternately terrible and evil are being made is overwhelming and numbing, it's impossible to give anything the attention it deserves because by the time you've processed one thing six more have happened

kinda forgot over the intervening four years how much it sucks and just is draining to know the orange goblin is there

swiftly remembering though

I came to appreciate David Lynch late, but the works he's influenced have been part of my world far longer; someone with such influence across multiple genres and mediums is pretty rare; he's one of the many people whose creative shadow I'm happy to reside in.

In 60 years of Star Trek across every major media format, I don't think any ship in the franchise has ever been quite so gorgeous as the refit Enterprise.

had a goal this year to write at least 125 words a day- not much but a daily push to go

only undershot only about three days until early November when, uh, Events, but still ended the year with around 70,000 more words than I started with

are they all useful words? not really

but they're my words

had a dream elon divided twitter into twitter blue and twitter red. twitter blue was completely normal twitter, but only for checkmarks; twitter red was for everyone else; with twitter red you could view tweets and heart them but you couldn't reply or send your own tweet unless you had twitter blue
