IMO, when asking why something is the way it is, we shouldn't just fall back on easy answers like "culture" or the "character of the people." Such answers are often just the first go-to when someone doesn't know very much about a subject. Culture variables also don't explain change.

Any time someone tries to explain social outcomes, the easy answer is "culture." That's because anything can be explained by culture (e.g., "oh that's just the way those people are; it's their culture"). When discussing Asia, sometimes this can get into weird orientalism.

but emotional attachment to something or someone you don’t know (aka being parasocial) is literally what makes a fan a fan lol. Like literally every single person who is a fan of someone that they don’t know personally is being parasocial to some degree..

idk I feel like ppl who preach about fans being parasocial have some kind of weird superiority complex and just throw that term around to blame fans (aka girls/women) when they acting up and I’m just 🙄 lol. Like sure ppl act weird a lot of the times and too much emotional attachment isn’t good
