18 year old failure
the steam sports fest has been going on for a couple years now, and sports is not just for jocks despite them being unfortunately the majority of the sports community

to be entirely fair to frontends in general (not iisu lol), this paradigm just doesn't work on a controller, which I think most frontends are designed for. if you want to play on your TV, a frontend is much more convenient then going to your mouse and keyboard to open the program, then rom to play.

this makes sense

The entire point of the Steam Machine is for people who already have a device but want a convenient way to play those games on the TV, and hey, even that still has the possibilities to pick up newcomers. It's not designed to be a Gaming PC replacement at all.

-not require it. Just like I'm sure it'll take advantage of the new steam controller and some of it's unique features.

Because far less people would be interested in buying a whole device just for one game, exactly like Alyx, except Alyx had a reason to be for VR devices, there is literally no reason to lock this to certain devices and would literally be worse business if they did. It'll take advantage of it-

Right but Half-Life Alyx had a reason to be exclusive, this doesn't. It's like complaining that a film isnt available as a book. They have no reason to lock a regular flatscreen HL to a steamos box. They already own the platform its exclusive to, they would make more money not having it exclusive.

Because that game was made for VR headsets, designed to be played in VR? of course it's VR exclusive. If it was Index exclusive you'd have a point but HLA would not be anywhere near as good if you remove the VR. We know this because you can. The noVR mod shows how the game is far lesser without it.

Highly doubt it. Why would they cannibalise game sales to maybe hopefully push a couple more units? They'll have things that might take advantage of the Steam Machine in game but it would be incredibly stupid for Valve to make HL3 exclusive to it. They're hopefully not that stupid.

I personally prefer the inside out solution as I think VR should be as friction-less as possible, especially if we want to continue to try to make it understandable to the mass market, but it's disappointing to see that they aren't really going to try anything with the Index style again.

Yeah the Frame is not going to be $200-400. At all. They said that the price ceiling is similar to that of the Index, which is insane, but I think base model will be more likely around the Quest 3's price. Which is what it's competing with, fair, but it could've been a lot better.
