The primary focus of PTE imo is build creativity and customization with combat strategy being the focus. It's what i call "comprehensive crunch", where there's a lot of depth it can go into but isn't as bloated as PTU and is fairly straightforward to understand.

I haven't done a full read of PTA in earnest. Only a few skim throughs. From what i can gather, PTA is very D&D coded with classes being one track with subclasses, skill checks being d20 + Stat Modifier, etc. PTE is the same sort of classlessness that PTU had, and has dice pools for skill checks

Agreed on this point. Trainers being involved in combat was the main reason I kept to ptu for so long despite it's flaws. Except the balance was awful so I just made an offshoot

I hate it too. The main issue imo is exposure. If people with a big audience tell people an alternative exists then they'll flock to it. PTE, PTR, Pokeymanz, Pokemon Unbeatable, Pokerole. Hell, even Pokemon pen and paper would be better.

That sounds right for a reaction from the devs. I'm at the phase of new system built from 5 years of ptu homebrew, haha.
October 22, 2025 at 12:04 PM
The pipeline goes as follows:
Disappointment in mainline games or wanting different setting > looking for Poke TTRPG > Find PTU most likely > homebrew the hell out of it or make something different

Just hard for me to get past some ptu pain points personally. I don't see much benefit in having attacks split between TM, Tutor and Egg moves. There are a lot of Pokemon in the dex that suffer due to movelists like gastly until level 30, etc. But i've played ptu for many years so i get the appeal.

Got it. Just curious of the pain points and things others may prefer. In my mind I felt that anything that was removed from core that a GM preferred could simply be home-brewed back in. Excluding AP and Poke Edges. And even then, Tutor Points were basically side graded into Pokemon advancement.

I'm Curious. What did it have compared to PTE? Was it the mechanics tied to the video games like battle captures and granular exp? Was it our lack of vtt support?
October 14, 2025 at 1:10 PM
Seconded. I made a system branch to try and improve the flaws buy even then, it only goes so far

It's just appropriate that it's halloween. It was on my to do list and I was procrastinating other things, haha
October 10, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Right now i'm making a module for Occult themed classes for my Pokemon TTRPG.

If you're interested I've gmed PTU for 5+ years and developed this as a system branch of sorts. linktr.ee/pokemontable...

August 26, 2025 at 1:19 PM
There are a lot of poke ttrpgs nowadays other than ptu
August 10, 2025 at 2:53 AM
At least 3. I've seen at least 30 at this point
August 3, 2025 at 2:23 AM
Always great to see more campaigns in Pokemon TTRPGs!
July 21, 2025 at 12:09 PM
The PokeTTRPG has changed a lot and isn't just PTA/PTU. There's probably at least 20 by now
July 2, 2025 at 12:08 PM
Pokemon TTRPGs is an endless rabbit hole.

Pokemon Tabletop Adventures (PTA), Pokemon Tabletop United (PTU), Pokemon Tabletop Reunited (PTR), Pokeymanz, Pokerole, Pokemon Unbeatable, Dungeons and Dunsparce, The PokeRPG, Pokemon 5e, Chambers & Charizards, and my own, Pokemon Tabletop Evolution (PTE)

Glad to hear! Totally get it about being too entrenched, we've all been there.
June 4, 2025 at 12:25 PM
It returns. Hopefully they'll keep it at some point, but wishful thinking
June 3, 2025 at 12:12 PM
If you're interested, look into Pokemon Tabletop Evolution. I've ran PTU for 5+ years and formed it around all the homebrew i've made for PTU to deal with a lot of those issues I had as well.
June 3, 2025 at 12:06 PM
If something more narrative is something you want i'd suggest Pokeymanz or Pokemon Unbeatable.
