Of course, people were angry about the use of AI, even if it was (supposedly) only trained on the developer's work. And, like so many other users of AI, they went full on AI Bro mode. Even the former artist had some wild takes, like how he'd be honored to have his work fed into an AI.

Faerie Solitaire's developer responds to an angry customer with an AI Bro defense: "AI is simply just a tool. It's not some demon that people make it out to be...I simply was using what tools I had to finish something...." The developer also states the AI assets will be swapped out, despite multiple posts stating they don't have the money to pay an artist to do so. The former artist for the Faerie Solitaire games notes the AI assets for the DLC were made with genAI trained on his work. He eventually goes into a dead horse AI Bro rant. "All art is a remix, all artists were inspired by those who came before, and AI is the ultimate remix tool...I'm old enough to remember when traditional artists had an outrage over people using Photoshop to make art saying it wasn't real art." He then gives the okay for people to use his work to train AI models and make games with it.

Good for them for not paying in exposure. But, if they're too broke to afford an artist, why are they encouraging artists to contact them? And did they really only use their own assets to train their AI? They worked with other artists in the past; wouldn't be hard to "borrow" their work.

Steam store page for Faerie Solitaire Remastered DLC: Lost Legends. The game contains AI slop (backgrounds, pets, and other assets). The developer is looking for an artist to replace these assets. A post in a Steam discussion from the main developer. They've reduced the price of the Faerie Solitaire Remastered DLC due to using AI assets. They tell artists to contact them about replacing the AI assets with better work. The developer states they're too broke to pay an artist to work for them, and don't want to pay in 'exposer' (sic). They've already made visible posts asking for artists to contact them about replacing the AI assets, despite having no money to pay. The dev also goes into AI Bro mode about AI being a tool to assist in creation, such as producing placeholder assets for an artist to reference. The developer posts about being in talks with artists in the past, but being unable to work out deals with them. They note they were expecting backlash about using AI assets, and decided to reply to angry posts about it. Again, the developer asks artists to contact them about replacing the AI assets, but also states they have no money to pay an artist.

Been getting into Path of Achra again. It's fun putting a build together, and there's a lot of them that actually work. Stand in place to damage enemies, summon stuff, melee to get buffs, hurt yourself repeatedly to level the battlefield...there's a lot.

According to the email I got, this order is arriving today. But, Gmail's "helpful" tracking somehow thinks it'll be several months.
Gmail tracking saying a package is expected in January, even though the email it scanned said the package is out for delivery.

Playing Roots of Pacha again! It's a farm sim in a fantastical prehistoric setting. The progression and domestication systems are nicely done, and the fishing minigame isn't too simple or overly challenging. The love and care the devs put into the game really shows! And they're still updating it!

Wow, an announcement and teaser with no gameplay footage for Civilization 7. Barf. After Civ 4, Fireaxis went to overpriced piecemeal DLC, map packs, and content passes. All those civ and map packs would've been part of one expansion in the past. And it would've been cheaper.

Fuck AAA gaming.
The list of Civilization 5's DLC, totaling $119.35. Most are packs that contain only a handful of items. In previous Civ games, these would've all been bundled into one expansion pack. A list of Civilization 6's DLC, totaling $86.60 due to a sale (regular price is $171.90). Like Civ 5, things that would've been part of a large expansion in earlier games are sold individually at a higher price. Unlike Civ 5, everything is more expensive.

I got this in my email. If you cancelled your subscription or let it lapse, you are currently screwed out of First content. Stuff that normally had First access removed after a week is still behind that paywall a month later.

This is why archival and piracy are cool, kids.

As for less depressing shit, Stardew 1.6 is happening on March 19th! It's been 8 years since this game came out, and it's still going strong.

I hope Haunted Chocolatier does just as well, if not better when it comes out!
Stardew Valley's 1.6 update is releasing on March 19, 2024. Patch notes will be released with the update, as ConcernedApe wants players to be able to discover new content for themselves. He recommends starting a new save file to see all the new things in context and try out the new farm type.

Amazon Prime Video has ads on movies and shows included with Prime. Ads can be removed for $2.99/month. This is addition to the $15/month for a Prime subscription. Ain't that cute?

Transphobes: Students need to use bathrooms for their biological gender at school. If trans students want to feel safe, they can go use a gender neutral bathroom. This is to help girls feel safe and protect them from sex pests. Because a "Female Bathroom" door sign will totally stop a sex pest.
Text from a recent change.org petition saying that biological girls are being shamed and discriminated against because they're forced to share a bathroom with biological boys. According to the petition, biological girls have to risk their safety if there's a biological boy in the bathroom. It then goes on to say that if girls want to feel safe, the girl must wait until the boy leaves, or use a gender neutral bathroom, which is infeasible due to the toilet to student ratios. There's no mention of transgender students, just biological girls and biological boys. It's almost as if the petition starter doesn't want them to exist. Shocking, right? Second part of a change.org petition that wants biological girls to feel safe in school bathrooms. The petition claims girls are concerned that their unwillingness to forfeit their safety rights will cause them to be called irrational, unaccepting, transphobes. It says potential "incidents" (i.e. sexual harassment or assault) are an issue if boys are in the girls bathroom, and that these incidents should be prevented from happening. As with the first part of the petition, transgender students and their safety are not brought up. Apparently, only biological girls are worth protecting, and transgender students should just use the gender neutral bathrooms if they want to feel safe. The petition also fails to account for the fact that sex pests target people in places other than bathrooms, and a "Girls Only" sign is not going to stop them.
