It was a great pleasure to welcome GPs from across the UK to Imperial College’s Annual GP Teachers Conference. As well as teaching clinical skills, GP teachers also shape the professional identity and core values of medical students and their knowledge of the role of primary care in the NHS.

In its recent guidance on the supervision of physician associates (PAs), the GMC says the duties of PAs may include all the tasks listed below. Other than prescribing drugs and requesting radiological investigations, these duties are very similar to those undertaken by doctors.

In the 1930s, many people in the UK and USA died from accidents at work and from occupational illnesses such as pneumoconiosis and asbestos-related diseases. It's essential to retain policies that protect the health and safety of workers when reducing the administrative burdens on businesses.

Hello Wes Streeting As somebody who is both a doctor and an academic with an interest in improving the performance of the NHS, I would love to read your thoughts about how you plan to “force the NHS to modernise”. Unfortunately, you have put your article behind a paywall.

Following Elon Musk’s request that employees should provide five examples of their work over the previous week, I have now done this. The items are in no particular order and I have no idea if doing this each week will improve the efficiency or productivity of public sector employees.

Vaccines prevent many infectious diseases, protecting your child and helping to reduce community infection rates. The NHS offers a wide range of vaccines free of charge for young children. Ensure your child is up to date with their vaccinations to keep them safe and healthy.

The failure to meet the WHO MMR vaccination target in the UK has important implications, including increased risk of measles outbreaks, erosion of herd immunity, increased pressure on the NHS, and a growing public health burden, particularly among vulnerable populations.

On the UK GMC website, you will now find an option to search for the registration details of physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs) as well as those of doctors. No one has yet adequately explained why the GMC is the appropriate body to regulate PAs and AAs.

The reply to one of my posts about vaccination in children reflects a common misconception about natural immunity versus vaccine-induced immunity. Vaccines are a scientifically validated way to protect children from the complications of potentially very serious infections.

After a period of decline, the number of tuberculosis (TB) cases in England has begun to increase. Clinicians should consider TB in patients with symptoms such as prolonged cough, weight loss, fever and night sweats, particularly those from higher-risk ethnic groups or countries.

Healthcare professionals are vital in improving vaccine uptake during pregnancy. Share clear, evidence-based information about the benefits of vaccination, counter misinformation, and ensure vaccines are offered during routine antenatal care. My new article in the BMJ. www.bmj.com/content/387/...

My full statement for the BMJ article is appended below. I comment on the arguments for and against this change; and also about issues around implementation - such as the need for a robust regulatory framework and appropriate safeguards for patients.
