Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro can and should be cornerstones of the next Manchester United team that's actually any good. Upper management's top priority should be finding a head coach that wants to make that happen more than playing a specific system or covering his own ass.

I don't think that a better manager can do much with Manchester United. Their recruitment has been bad for 15 years and they have a squad construction problem.

But if they're going to be bad, they can at least hire a manager who wants to build around and develop their high ceiling youngsters.

– Retaining Amorim doesn’t have to mean “building around” him

– The primary issue is “the squad isn’t good”. It’s not “the squad can’t play Amorim’s 3-4-3” even if true

– If United keep “building a squad for [coach]” the squad will continue to be subpar and need full rebuilds when coaches leave
