Everyone says that we must speak out and resist if democracy is to survive. I organize demonstrations in front of my church w/ scriptures about justice, mercy and welcoming immigrants.

Sometimes I am one of the only one there. Why aren’t more speaking out and resisting?

This image always inspires me. This kind of courage and resistance might be in our very near future.

We are still in the majority. It will take courage to resist, but we can do it. You’re not alone.

What is happening in LA is frightening, but I will continue to peacefully protest in my local area.

And I will support my friends and family who do the same. Together we can make a difference.

Wise words from a Japanese American activist.

We need to stand together, for our enemy is not people who don’t look like us, act like us, worship like us or vote like us.

The people at the top want us fighting each other rather than stand up to them.

It’s still not too late for us to stick together and fight for one another. We need each other for our freedom’s sake!

During these dark days, let us stay informed with reliable and factual news sources. The last thing we want to do is mindlessly react to lies and fear mongering.

That’s how “good” people end up committing atrocities.

Let’s lift each other up, with the truth.

I’m performing in a play!

This is the story of Matthew Shepard, who was killed in a hate crime in Laramie, WY.

While it highlights a horrible crime, it also uplifts love, tolerance and acceptance of our LGBTQ neighbors. In other words, it’s a moving story of DEI.

Come have your heart changed.

I have heard it said that now is the time to create, foster and nurture community. We need one another and we need to honor who we are.

This administration might take some of my freedoms away, but they won't take my sense of self away.

The rest of the bible verse says, "...so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed..."

Whether you are a Christian, another faith or atheist, we all need strength to proclaim the message of freedom, dignity of all persons and equality.

Let's all find our strength now!

In the coming dark days, let’s all stand up for one another. Whether we are trans, gay, disabled, women, ethnic minorities or anyone who wishes to speak up, let’s support and protect each other. We’re all we have.

In the days ahead, we need to keep loving one another. Yes, even those who disagree with you and those who will work towards taking away some of our rights.

Love does not mean we condone all views and actions. It means we must not lose the ability to see the humanity in others.

With all the trouble in our country, and more to come after Jan. 20, I am still working on making this world a bit better.

What do you do with leftover roast from Christmas dinner? You make beef pot pie! We ate half of it last evening, and yum. It was delicious! I think I know what I’ll be having for lunch today!

After January 20, I plan to resist. In any way I can. To help those around me. To possibly save my own life. To possibly save another’s life.

Our world after Jan. 20, 2025 will be painful, maybe even dangerous to those who resist the upcoming administration.

Take care of yourself. We need our strength and persistence in order to fight for ourselves and for each other.

Self care is not selfishness. It’s survival.

The incoming administration is talking about who they will delete, exclude and shame.

I choose the opposite. I choose love, empathy, inclusion and community. This is how I will resist.

I am a theatre artist. I produce plays that showcase actors of color. Sometimes the story is the story of a marginalized people, other times it is a “mainstream” play that purposely includes POC.

Art will bring us together. No silence, no self-pity.

Let’s enjoy art together.

The days ahead will be difficult. They might be impossible for the already vulnerable.

Everyone deserves support and help, not just the ones we agree with.

I hope our economy doesn’t collapse so badly that we can’t help one another by sharing our resources. I hope to do this.

This is resistance. This is what fighting for each other looks like.

It isn’t violent or forced. It is gentle and loving, but it is what we will need in the coming years.

Let’s help each other lessen the pain. We can do it.

After January 20th, we will resist. But resistance may not necessarily look like a fight, a protest or a public speech.

It might be forming a network of care, adopting a shelter dog or cat, or making a meal for a hungry neighbor.

How can you make the world we want? We can do it!

I’m going to try to save at least one thing in the days ahead.

What, you might ask? Nothing big, but maybe I can save a theatre or two. Maybe I can help an arts organization survive or encourage at least one artist and “save” their desire to pursue their art.

Help something grow.

I will speak up whenever and however I can, even though I have a very small platform on social media.

But maybe if all of us, with both small and large platforms would join together, we will make one very big noise after Jan. 20. We will resist, and we will do it together.

I can’t be like this doggo and protect those around me, but when fascism comes to our country, I can at least help protect someone more vulnerable than me.

Maybe that’s what we all need to do next year, protect others in a way that actually helps.
