Also, let's dive into your "can't use letters" - this isn't a standard practice for versioning anyway. Suppose I grant an internal requirement, the standard would be major .minor .patch .build and your "rc1" would simply be build x.x.x.1234.

False. Entirely false. None of the platforms have any versioning requirements. I would love be proven wrong here, but it won't happen. the 255 limit you're suggesting is from IP addresses, not versioning. IP addresses (v4 to be precise) has this limit due to bits, which is why they are "octets".

Could you explain the reasoning to not adopt Semantic Versioning & maybe what you see two, three, four years out?

25.3 on Java is Copper, but on bedrock 25.3 would have been Chase the the skies. And In Java, the example shows 26.1-rc-1 for 26 Q1 release instead of 26.1.0.rc-1

Not everyone CAN play Java. Minecraft is cross-platform playable. Switch, Playstation, Xbox, even Phones and tablets.

And this isn't the point. Bedrock is functionally just as performant as Java. Aside from the differences the devs refuse to settle (offhand, observers/redstone), they play the same
