here's something interesting i just saw on this exact topic. we lack the radical community infrastructure here to make these kinds of mass actions possible, many don't feel capable of doing more radical action without facing immediate state repression & there's no network to support them
repost from thepeoplesscientist on instagram: I think it's easy for western leftists to glamorize uprisings without necessarily diving as deep into the intense collectivist infrastructure needed to be able to amount even 1% of a response like that. We keep having cycles of momentum with mass public protests, more people joining movements and then collapse/ burnout/ people getting jaded because I think we're too fixated on amassing some uprising that is far from us and instead community building / soil laying isn't as "se-xy". It's not as easy to quantify the productivity, efficiency, "wins" there. When you see pictures of people elsewhere in the world burning down their parliament, overthrowing their governments know that there was decades, centuries of devoted collectivist culture and community building that is the backbone of any successful peoples uprising. When people in the west can devote themselves to that kind of soil laying and let go of these glamorous notions, I think we'll get somewhere. continued: I'm seeing so many posts saying stuff like "look at how Nepal or X country in the global south just took action and overthrew their government in 2 days" almost as if to say that translates to the west and that we should just do it. I'm sure some understand the nuance but the reason mass uprisings don't really happen in the west in a sustainable long term manner IS because people don't get the massive amount of infrastructure building that goes into it, the lifetime of community building. Organizing in the west still is an "activity" for many people rather than a way of life or a thing of survival borne out of mecedsity. There's a reason so many people are going back to the status quo now because they're jaded by the lack of "things happening"-not because things arent happening but because they glamorized the revolution. Because they got into it wanting to feel good about playing a role and wanting to see "wins" thru the limited lens of what a win is. continued: I'm tired of resistance from the global south being glamorized in overly reductive ways so when people don't see stuff happening that fast in the west, they just get disinterested/ hopeless/ trapped in despair. If you live in the west, then we are not Nepal or X global south community. We can learn from revolutions and the most important part to focus on is the soil laying and communal/ collectivist infrastructure that allows people be able to overthrow a state. That's the part we need to devote ourselves to learning more about- not how quickly people took action. It's nice to use that to fuel some momentum and fire in your local context but it is also insulting to not see how much fkin work goes into effective resistance. It didn't take 2 days. It took lifetimes and countless people. It took generations of community building and collectivist cultural practices. It took everything. And we have to realize that it will take that x 10000 for us.

since i showed off my altar yesterday, let's share some studio pics too!

it's all the same space, i use the altar to power my creative work sometimes. i like being able to blend my spiritual passions into my music & art :3

overhead of full studio, with altar space, DJ/streaming setup, production setup, and some extra storage up top the music side of things. using a s4 mk3, streamdeck, launchkey, midi fighter twister, maschine mk2, blue spark, asus vivobook, yamaha dgx-220, razer kiyo, only one speaker by sterling, and a crt for audio visualisation & second screen while streaming. not pictured is a subwoofer i found for free once, audio technica ath-m50x headphones, a cajon by meinl, a crate guitar amp, squire bullet electric guitar, casio cz-5000 and some other little things up in the storage space

after a while my shift dies down, and i take some time to commune with the moon mother through these oracle cards

i ask some personal questions about what projects to focus on next, pulling this spread. i'm new to these cards but there was some helpful guidance here

this was meant to be a "past, present, future" spread but it didn't turn out that way (perhaps backwards?). first pull was new moon in sagittarius, symbolising that new fortune is coming. the second, full moon eclipse, a closing of doors (this one especially landed with me considering i cut off communication with my parents recently). the third pull was full moon in capricorn, saying that much work is needed coming soon but this is the end of that cycle. needing more clarity i did another shuffle & pulled the north node, asking me to step out of my comfort zone and do what scares me. i have a fairly solid idea of what this means for me and will shift my focus to that project next

for this ritual, i called upon my major deities: gaia, the lord of the forest, the great fox & wolf spirits, luna the moon mother (my own name for her) & the forests of my youth

i have artifacts that i can touch & pull power from for each of these, either on my altar or on my person

a forked stang. a common symbol of the lord of the forest, gifted to me during a full moon ceremony i did seeking conversation with local nature spirits. next to it on the wall is a piece of bark from the forest i grew up in, pulled off a fallen oak by my wife when we visited once

with this, i then lit the main candle on the altar, opening the gateway for spirits to come forth. this flame stays lit as long as i am doing my spiritual work & gets blown out when i close the space

it is also the flame i use when i burn things in the center bowl, more on that later

to begin, i open the altar with a corner call to the cardinal directions and the elements associated with them, bidding them welcome

this is my own layout, based on vibes, more established systems use other layouts, sometimes calling to spirits below & beyond

once my space is ready, i do some light yoga to clear my mind & stretch my body out. i have a quartz i use for clearing out built up energies & a way of putting my hands together that focuses my attention inwards. this pose forces the hands inwards & is useful for empowerment as well

an inversion on the typical "prayer hands", one hand is turned over so that the hands are forced inwards towards the solar plexus. the crystal is held between the hands so it can aid in clearing out stored energies before beginning the ritual

main altar with various objects to call upon certain energies. not all of this is used often, but it being on the altar gives the objects a residence energy and they impart some of their qualities onto the work done side table with some other tools like cards, journal, incense burner & shift weed (more on that later)
