First version of the robot builder is done! This is essentially the character select screen before every run, with more options for each part being unlocked as you get further in

Turns out it's pretty difficult to design melee weapons that'll work with every type of robot without looking super dumb... A good old fashioned punch seems to do the job okay though 🥊

You can now arm your robot with a cute little mini crossbow, what more could you want? 🏹

Now a robot with these big new wheels can hit its opponent with a big ol' ground pound

It's beginning to look like an actual functioning turn-based combat system, I think

Been working on a new, bigger game idea, so far all I've got to show is some test animations but I think this little guy is pretty cool

Levels now have a bunch of gems to collect 💎 Which are definitely not bait to tempt players away from always taking the most direct path everywhere

This is how satellites work, right? Just throw it up there then send someone out to hit the on button

Spent almost an hour trying to beat this level in under 30 seconds after making it. Didn't manage it (peaked at 30.1s...) but feels like a sign the game's getting fun at least 😂

Released my little 2 ship shmup on itch last week, with 6 waves of enemies and a boss fight to beat - try it out for free in your browser! axylaric.itch.io/split-space

Split Space - my mini shoot 'em up where you control two ships at once (one with each hand) - is out now for free on itch! 🚀

It's playable in browser or can be downloaded for Windows - axylaric.itch.io/split-space

Who reckons they could make it through this absolute chaos? (bearing in mind this is a single player game 😄)

I'd say this boss fight is coming together, and now with music! 🎵

I've finally joined the Steam Deck owner's club, and it's definitely pretty cool to have one of my games playable on a handheld

Having my first go at making any sort of boss fight, and trying (with mixed results) not to make it *too* difficult

One of the difficulty modifiers in Split Space swaps the controls for the two ships (see the button prompts at the bottom of the screen) and it's surprising how much it can mess with your brain, even for me!

Dug these out from my old things, which were responsible for some of my earliest memories playing games when I was around 6 or 7. An insane list of demos, but pretty sure I never played most of the best ones 😂

Got the transition from start screen to the game set up, so here's a nice minute-long chunk of Split Space gameplay

Spent way too long making a neatly looping GIF for Split Space to put on my website (axylaric.com, WIP but getting there) so might as well post it here too

Started putting together a proper little intro screen, and my very hacky attempt at simulated gameplay for the background works surprisingly well

It took a while but I've finally been knocked off the top of the leaderboard for my game Otto's Escape 🎉 Now I just need someone to break the 5 minute barrier to prove I didn't make the achievements too difficult

Ended up with quite a few more Zelda things to fill my flat with from Christmas 😅 The very cool art prints are courtesy of @kokiricraig.bsky.social

Spruced up the background with some colour, stars and asteroids to make it a bit more interesting to look at

Kicking the speed up even just a little makes a pretty big difference when you're juggling two ships at once
