I click them. If anything, there should be some encouragement to click the links. The cost of not adding your references is that it encourages others to do so, making it hard to differentiate true claims from false.

You need it so that python can differentiate python modules from any other folder. It's kind of an indicator that python needs to check for other python code/modules in this folder.
