I am going to Lund to speak at the Natural and Artificial Cognition workshop (www.ai.lu.se/evenemang/na...) and it's all looking great but I am really curious to find out what the "SWEDISH GOVERNMENT BREAKFASTt" consists of.

Cleaning up my office a bit I stumbled upon extensive correspondence between undergraduate me and Donald Broadbent, the great British psychologist, who was, in 1986, interested in implicit learning. These interactions pretty much shaped the rest of my career.

In 1986, my (deceased) father created this 50x70cm composition about the work I was carrying out at Carnegie Mellon, where I was studying recurrent networks, including the “Jordan sequential network” featured here. I didn’t know about this until I stumbled upon the piece cleaning up his workshop.

I spent the afternoon in Charleroi (aka “Brussels South”) and have seen many more strange people in 30m than in a whole year - all with incredible kindness and warmth.

Just a week ago my Ph.D. advisor, A.I. pioneer & friend Jay McClelland came to visit us in Brussels (thx again Nath Carl & FARI) and I had this terrific lunch with him and @krysdolega.bsky.social — three generations of cognitive scientists in a radiant snapshot!

Wondering why we are conscious? Come help us attack the Hard Problem empirically by joining our ERC-funded EXPERIENCE team. We are looking for a nerdy postdoc who knows fMRI / RSA and for a highly motivated Ph.D student

In 2010 Laurent Waroquier, David Marchiori, @olivier_klein and I completely debunked this experiment about unconscious thought so seeing it featured in a popsci book 13y later is rather 😒

Was the intent here to do the typography this way, or was it limited by neon tech? That is, would that E be full had it been done with LEDs?
