Ye, i think the mangaka wanted the series to be more heterocentric because it would cater more to the female audience. A different write wrote the stuff with shiori and juri in the manga. I am speaking entirely based on stuff i heard so bear that in mind

literally, i think in an epilogue chapter of the manga they even showed the two together, despite shiori not being in most of the manga, with Juri being made interested in men there (whereas in the anime, she is strongly implied to be lesbian)
