These HAVE to go together; here's why. We've seen Emmrich look at Rook with Pikachu-surprise at Rook's blunt flirtations, and Emmrich's suave glances back. I think this is the first instance, though, that we see Emmrich's fond heart eyes (and imo his "oh dear I'm in the thick of it now" realization)

I have many feelings about a Shadow Dragon Rook who saves Treviso. Yes, I'm aware that some of this is b/c of a lack of character branching. But I'm obsessed by the implications of Neve's pain re: Minrathous being emphasized and Rook's being ignored/dismissed (or seen almost as too little too late).

I just really loved this shot because of how it's framed (Rook being seen behind the axe was such a good frame, I so love that kind of design) and also this is such a bro moment. Davrin reminds me a lot of my IRL bro, and I have absolutely done this many times at my friend's house lolllll

My boys, my beloved squad 💚💜💙 (seriously though, Veil Ranger/Saboteur specialization Rook with max Taunt for Davrin and max healing for Emmrich is a damn near unkillable combo).

I didn't notice until this time around the contrast of the Hossberg Wetlands-- the horror of the earth, with the snow and the blight and the unforgiving terrain, and then this gorgeous sky. There's a recurring motif of "light from darkness" in DAV and this region is one of the best examples.

And the second part—Rook is immediately intrigued by Emmrich, who is kind, honest if tactful, and most of all respectful. He’s nothing like Rook expects from his experience with powerful men in Tevinter, and it’s refreshing. (Rook is also Very Gay and and the older Emmrich is definitely his type.)

Davrin ends up as Rook’s best friend. They bond over responsibility, over the challenge of being your own man, over what it means to change and to choose a new future. He’s the person Rook can just sit in silence with and feel comfortable. He’s also the first part of Rook’s usual exploration team.

Rook is a trans man, and fat; two options I was delighted to see in the character creator this time around. His tattoos are his youthful attempt to connect to a heritage that is always out of his reach. He’s in his 30s now, and over a decade later that feeling of isolation has never gotten better.
