Portugal is facing one of the worst years in terms of wildfires. Most of them caused by humans and some by thunderstorms. Everything is chaotic and the government refused to call for international help until it was too late. Instead they gladly announced formula 1 will be back in 2027… shame…

Another year with massive wildfires in Portugal. It’s getting harder to understand the constant lack of support from the government for fire prevention, especially in terms of habitat management. Yesterday was the day we should praise conservation and Portugal only national park is burning down…

Another year capturing and ringing purple herons on the nests. By doing so, we not only aim to understand their movements but also how the breeding population in northern Portugal is doing.

By relying on different types of data and accounting for device specific GPS errors we were able to detect nests after only 2 days of incubation! A landmark in my PhD and a huge step to better understand the reproductive ecology of the Pteroclidae!
