Dissolving close Allyship between the US and NATO and other key partners forces the citizens to turn to the US Government alone for support.

Cults use similar techniques to force compliance from their members.

Antagonizing increase a serious threats. Gutting agencies reduces the chances of preventing them.

Attacks against the US (economic or terrorist), are a benefit for a fledgling authoritarian government.

Fear and crisis brings increased centralization of authority, and special powers for rulers.

There has been strong evidence that Trump has been at best Putin's fanboy stooge and at worst a traitorous collaborator and/or compromised asset for a long while.

Everything he's done since coming to power makes 100% under the interpretation that he is actively working to serve Russia's interests.
