Former Archaeologist, now a Naval Project Manager, based in Poole, Dorset.
Loves crumbling buildings, broken ceramics and hidden earthworks. Particularly interested in medieval buildings, towns & ports.
Sometimes posting about ships & aviation.
Really enjoyed our first visit to the rather wonderful freshly re-opened and rejuvenated Poole Museum - particularly love the Shipwreck! maritime archaeology gallery in the medieval town cellars @poolemuseum.bsky.social #Dorset

The country seems angry and full of hatred, the sky is dark and full of rain, so I think I’ll pop on some jazz, have an ale and read about the fascinating archaeology of Cranborne Chase this evening.

St Mary’s church at Almer - a typical unassuming parish church sat peacefully just off the A31 but worth a visit. The church has a C13th Purbeck font and some nice Norman features including the south doorway and the three rounded mid-C12th arches of the north arcade #Dorset

Steamship Shieldhall departing Poole this morning - always nice to see historic ships in the harbour. Shieldhall was built in the 1950s in the style of a 1920s steamer.

Mostly people-free and zero traffic noise (except passing boats), it’s bliss. You take one of the small ferries from Poole Quay across the harbour to the other end of the island and then walk through the woods to get there.
