There are like no private elementary schools downtown either. The main private elementary school in Denny Triangle that’s been in the SLU/Denny area for about 40 years will be moving to Capitol Hill in a few years.

I know of one SPS middle school that has only a 3 min. passing period! Definitely not enough time to even use the restroom and got to class, let alone stop at a locker. I want SPS to really work on and figure out how to address the needs of middle schoolers; I feel they’re often ignored by all.

Right! The primary goal of public building renovations/changes, in my mind, is to better serve the public (like seismic upgrades, bigger spaces). I personally don’t think historic preservation better serves the public.

Landmarking public buildings also means renovating/modernizing is even more expensive—taxpayer dollars not going as far to meet our needs. I personally am on the side of no historic preservation (likely in the minority). I know others feel historic preservation is to some extent important.

Yeah, we used to gossip, play cards, read magazines—just hang out! Freshmen year the memorable thing we did was try to sneak off campus for lunch, hiding and running from our security guard, Karen! Ha!

Ah interesting. For FEPP funding, I’m thinking of the family support worker, which I believe is sort of the same as a social worker. At least that’s what my school’s staff person did, and position funded with FEPP. Sounds like I’m conflating this with an SPS change in WSS for social workers.

So this was a presentation by SPS leadership at a SCPTSA meeting? Have they offered this type of presentation to others who are not PTA?

FEPP is funding social worker at several schools and is going well. Maybe FEPP renewal will actually fund one in all?? What’s the “predictable math pathway” that didn’t go well? How was it disaster? Haven’t been a parent in SPS to see disasters beyond bungling enrollment, HCC, and school closures …

I think for me, my experience has been in schools with minimal caregiver influence into leadership decisions; a culture of “listen to the principal, they always know best.” I believe other ‘affluent’ schools aren’t like that. Rather decisions involve community and what’s best for kids

My point was I think it’s so important that away for the day should be the rule at all high schools. I think we would all benefit from clear cell phone policy district wide (I’m worried Southend principals would ask for exception just like a few are saying they want SROs back!)

I don’t prefer flexibility between schools. It should be away for the day everywhere. I’m tired of SPS making it difficult to attend a school of your choice (they say you get the same experience everywhere) when they’re actually so different! Away for a day vs teacher by teacher changes so much!

The number of people who don't take transit due to safety concerns is eclipsed by those who do so because of speed or convenience, both of which would be improved by more bus service.
