I totally agree. The company I work for already has several successful private schools that use AI-tailored learning experiences to condense core curriculum to 2 hours a day. Not only does it allow kids to move at their own pace, but it gives time for life-skill learning in the afternoons.

I feel like the goal of AI should be automating away the work that no one wants to do to allow people to focus on the harder/more critical work that is enjoyable. It always seemed wild to me that GenAI wants to automate creating art by employing people to mindlessly categorize images in rote work.

I think the problem with gamification is that it is inherently an afterthought. If you want to encourage learning through game mechanics, you have to start designing for that goal. At best gamification is an attempt to motivate an activity that is inherently not engaging and playful.

Absolutely agree. And I think that happens on both fronts in terms of calling out terrible uses of AI, but also supporting more responsible and innovative uses of AI. We definitely need a better process to distinguish the two quickly, but that's a whole other topic.

From what I've seen, ChatGPT is great at generating writing that people don't care much about like marketing emails or website copy. Unfortunately it looks like writing assignments fit that category for a lot of students.
