John Varley created fascinating centaurs in his novel Titan. The horse end has both female and male genitalia and the human end either male or female. There is some interesting stuff on what each set is used for, recreation versus breeding.

Four, I think. I also remember a short lived colour sci fi mag that featured the artwork quite prominently. Don’t know if it was associated with the publisher. Felt quite glossy back then
